Come Prepared
Dress: Dress for the weather! Dress in layers. Boots, hat, gloves, scarf, windbreak layer, and layers for the upper and lower body. Wool, silk and synthetic fibers are best. Avoid cotton.
Hiking Gear: Bring appropriate winter hiking gear including trekking poles, gaiters, boot traction devices (Ice Trekkers, YakTrax, etc), day pack, snacks, and water.
All hikes begin and end at the Caesar Creek Visitor Center conference room.
All hikes will finish in time for the potluck feast.
Hike # 1 – 9:00 am
Length: 12 miles
Duration: 5 hours
Expected Pace: Moderate
Hike Description: This hike is a loop hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue) and yellow trail on the southern perimeter of Caesar Creek Lake. This group will hike the loop clockwise, heading first to the Day Lodge and SR-73.
Hike # 2 – 10:00 am
Length: 12 miles
Duration: 4 hours
Expected Pace: Brisk
Hike Description: This hike is a loop hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue) and yellow trail on the southern perimeter of Caesar Creek Lake. This group will hike the loop counter-clockwise, heading first to the dam and Pioneer Village.
Hike # 3 – 10:30 am
Length: 8 miles
Duration: 3 hours – 45 minutes
Expected Pace: Moderate
Hike Description: The first part of the hike is an out and back using the Buckeye Trail (blue) to the Day Lodge and back (5.2 miles). After a short break at the Visitor Center, for part two we’ll hike the Gorge Loop Trail near the dam (3 miles).
Hike # 4 – 11:00 Am
Length: 7 miles
Duration: 3 hours
Expected Pace: Moderate
Hike Description: This hike is an out and back hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue).
Hike # 5 – 11:30 Am
Length: 6 miles
Duration: 2.5 hours
Expected Pace: Moderate
Hike Description: This hike is an out and back hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue).
Hike # 6 – 12:00 Pm
Length: 5 miles
Duration: 2 hours
Expected Pace: Moderate
Hike Description: This hike is an out and back hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue) and the Gorge trail. Our pace will be 2 to 2.5 mph and we will cover 4 to 5 miles depending on the time and weather considerations.
Hike # 7 – 12:30 Pm
Length: 3 miles
Duration: 1.5 hours
Expected Pace: Slow-Moderate
Hike Description: This hike is an out and back hike using the Buckeye Trail (blue).
Potluck Feast
potluck feast- 2:00 Pm
Potluck Feast: Bring a dish to share! We will enjoy a hearty meal after a day of winter hiking. Bring a pot of chili, a crockpot dish, side dish, dessert or food item to share with the group. Electric outlets, oven, and refrigerator are available.

There is no charge for this event. But bring a dish to share. Donations accepted.
Volunteer: Volunteers are needed for tear down and clean up. We must do everything ourselves. By 5:00 pm we must be cleaned up, have the lights off and vacated.
Conference Room: The perfect place for our winter hike and potluck feast! It is located right on the blue blazes of the Buckeye Trail! The Conference Room is a beautiful and well equipped place. The room has ample space for over 100 people, plenty of tables, chairs, a modern kitchen, restrooms and lots of parking. The Visitor Center is attached and features interpretive displays, on going short movies, gift shop with trail maps.
